On one hand, thank goodness for search startups. As with any industry dominated by one or two monster players who cannot be beaten, even by all others combined, it’s the startups who nip at such monster players’ heels and keep them on their toes; and who also give the monsters some good ideas.

But little more. There’s an old joke saying that owning a boat is like throwing money into a hole in the ocean. Starting-up a search engine, these days, is the Internet equivalent.
