Jim
Like everyone else I know very little about windows 8 but it is my understanding from the [very] little information available that youwe will be able to have a desktop just as it is today. With wallpaper and icons if that is what youwe want, and at the moment this iswill be my wish as I too do not like the look of the graphic shown. As far as I understand this "screen" is also configurable and can be set as youwe would like.

At the moment I am trying to think of this desktop screen as just an update on the libraries in windows 7. A shortcut to all yourour favourite programs. I am more than likely wrong in this assumption but personally I will try to keep an open mind about it.
