When i used MSE it protected my laptop from everything i can think. I ditch because another problem non-related to virus detection (after for a while it was eating too much cpu when scanning files that were being opened). But i guarantee that it protected me 100% and i say so because i'm sure. I visits a lot of sites well known or not well known.

Yes you could well be correct none of my social media friends will use security essentials, Yet my eldest son (a web designer) does as do I, now I have given up trying to convert them

True, MSE or Windows Defender is so well integrated with the OS and light on resources too.

Could it be because of a possible concerted effort by all the security companies, to make MSE appear to be bad? After all, they are in the business of selling antivirus software.

I found the good side about security essentials is it does not keep nagging you with popups I found the free AVG did that whereas Avast has not well yet at least, I see nothing wrong with security essentials at all yet it got a bad name at onetime, I don't know why

After Microsoft's statement, "...if we are doing our job correctly, that’s what will happen," what is implied is that if OTHER SECURITY VENDORS are doing their jobs correctly as well, given that they're provided 100% of the technology that Security Essentials has, there should be no excuse for them not to at least meet this detection baseline. However this baseline is constantly moving up forcing all vendors to meet a certain protection standard effectively dictated by Microsoft on the Windows platform. After all, what security company wants to have a pay-for product that performs only as well or worse than what's available for free?
What should be noted is that AV-Comparatives & other benchmarks are the reason many malware products - and you know which ones I'm referring to - are absolute CPU & memory pigs. Most of these independent malware gauntlets test for massive amounts of long irrelevant malware like SQL Slammer & Code Red that haven't been threats in the wild for a decade. They don't benchmark effectiveness in the real world & they don't benchmark their systemic effects on productivity. No real security consultant takes them seriously.
