I guess they’ll keep IE on the Windows forever as they keep the 16bit EDIT app for MSDOS. You can still run it by typing EDIT in Run dialog. Wonder who uses it.
But in case of IE, programmers would be lazy to make changes to websites as long as IE is around. Most of the Asian websites are like “Viewed best in IE 6 or above”. So IE would be required. And as long as IE can render those websites, developers might feel a bit lazy on improving their websites.
