Ever since Microsoft announced the Build Conference 2021, there were rumors about some big news coming from the tech giant. Proving them right, Satya Nadella, the CEO of Microsoft, made a few announcements in the kickoff speech of Microsoft Build 2021.
‘Next generation of Windows’
Most importantly, he said that the biggest update to Windows in decades is coming soon. According to Nadella, the company will be launching one of the significant updates that would change how developers and creators use the Windows OS. The CEO did not share many details about the project, though.
However, Satya Nadella added that he has been self-hosting the updated version of Windows and that he is “incredibly excited” about the next generation of Windows OS. He also made a bold promise that the new version will generate more opportunities for developers worldwide trying to build and monetize their apps.
It needs to be noted that the announcement is vague, and we cannot be sure whether we can see any changes in the visual aspects of Windows OS. Considering that Microsoft has converted Windows 10 into a service-based system, it is unclear how a single update will turn things around. Yet, the words of confidence from the CEO indicate that teams at Microsoft have been working on a project.
It is worth noting that Satya Nadella made a few other announcements during the same event. For instance, he talked about the Windows on ARM Developer Kit, which will allow developers to create and optimize the apps for ARM-based devices running Windows.
Similarly, Microsoft is planning to launch a few tools for cloud calling and make them available for third-party users. The company also plans to extend Azure Arc support, which has let customers connect and manage their AWS and Google Cloud Platform resources via Azure.
The kickoff speech also included a few other mentions, such as the ongoing customizations to Microsoft Teams, enhanced collaboration via Power Platform, Azure Confidential Ledger for blockchain data storage, and the use of Artificial Intelligence for writing code.
Most of these features await their launch in just a few weeks or months.
