It is no secret that Microsoft has been trying its best to elevate the status of Microsoft Edge browser into an absolute beast in the previous year, especially since Build 2020. After a year, the company has published a State of the Browser video on Microsoft Edge during the Microsoft Build 2021 conference.
New Microsoft Edge improvements
The developer team at Microsoft has explained how Edge has improved in the past year for users and developers. The team also emphasizes Microsoft’s decision to replace Edge as the default browser and officially retire the Internet Explorer app by the half of 2022. These updates make it clear that the tech giant wants to push Edge to never-before-seen levels in the future.
WebView2 is one thing that Microsoft has talked about in its recent blog post. The company says that WebView has become an easy-to-find standard across frameworks like WPF/WinForms, Win32 C/C++. The company’s efforts in the past year have made the same available in WinUI 3. The blog post also mentions that Morgan Stanley plans to use WebView2 to future-proof its technology.
Using WebView2 and other enhanced native app technologies, employees at Morgan Stanley can now enjoy better native applications. It is worth noting that WebView3 brings many features that we could not find on Chromium containers.
Last but not least, Microsoft clarifies that WebView2 has now been made available for WebView2 apps. Developers can choose this option while Microsoft makes WebView Runtime available across the OS.
Microsoft also revealed how Edge has improved over the years. For instance, the project has accepted 5,300 Chromium commits, making all the new designs and features available to the end-user. It also mentions the state of Edge Origins Trials and the addition of PWAs to the Microsoft Store.
Microsoft has promised that Edge version 91 will be the best-performing web browser on Windows 10.
