Windows Driver Verifier tool is used to find and troubleshoot driver issues on Windows that cause system corruption, failures, etc. It has been included in Windows since Windows 2000. Microsoft is now deprecating the Windows Driver Verifier GUI in future versions of Windows starting from May 2024.
Windows Driver Verifier GUI, Steps Recorder, etc. to be deprecated
Microsoft has been deprecating a lot of features and tools on Windows 11. It already deprecated Windows Mixed Reality in December 2023. Along with it, Microsoft has deprecated features like Microsoft Defender Application Guard for Edge, Windows speech recognition, etc. Now, it is the time for Windows Driver Verifier GUI (verifiergui.exe).
Microsoft has confirmed that it will be deprecated in future versions of Windows starting from May 2024. Once the feature is deprecated, Windows users can use Driver Verifier Command Line (verifier.exe) instead of Driver Verifier GUI. Driver Verifier Command Line tool has different syntaxes for Windows 11, Windows 10, and other versions. You can use those commands and troubleshoot issues with drivers.
Along with Driver Verifier GUI, Microsoft has deprecated NPLogonNotify and NPPasswordChangeNotify APIs starting in Windows 11, version 24H2. They are disabled by default and may be removed in future releases. They are deprecated to enhance the security of Windows 11 starting from March 2024.
Microsoft has also stopped updating the Steps Recorder (psr.exe) from November 2023. It is being removed with updates on Windows 11. Users can use Snipping Tool, Xbox Game Bar, or Microsoft Clipchamp as an alternative to Steps Recorder.
