After releasing updates for the default Windows Store Apps in Windows 8 recently, Microsoft is all set to release a final update via Windows Updates, for the new operating system, before its General Availability.
General Availability Cumulative Update for Windows 8
This cumulative update package for the Windows 8 Client and Windows Server 2012 is being referred to as the General Availability Cumulative Update, and will provide a collection of performance and reliability improvements that are designed to improve the Windows 8 experience.
The update will result in:
- Increased power efficiency to extend battery life
- Performance improvements in Windows 8 applications and Start screen
- Improved audio and video playback in many scenarios
- Improved application and driver compatibility with Windows 8.
During the final months of Windows 8 we challenged ourselves to create the tools and processes to be able to deliver these “post-RTM” updates sooner than a service pack. By developing better test automation and test coverage tools we are happy to say that Windows 8 will be totally up to date for all customers starting at General Availability. If you are an MSDN or enterprise customer, these updates will be available for your Windows 8 PCs via Windows Update as of today (October 9), following our standard cadence for Windows Updates on the second Tuesday of each month at about 10:00am, says Microsoft.
Those who already have Windows 8 RTM installed, might want to keep an eye on the availability of this update on their computer, and apply them right away as they will bring about improvements in areas of performance, power management, battery efficiency, media playback, and compatibility. You can also download the standalone installer from here.
The update KB2756872 is a 169.9 MB download and you may be required to restart your computer after you apply it.
I just can’t wait till 26.10.2012, fuckin excited for windows8 🙂
The talk is yet another Win Milenium/Vista mistake coming up. My cash is staying in my pocket.
My Windows 8 PRO RTM gives me a blank screen after these updates 🙁
Even from safe mode, and system restore doesn’t work coz cannot find restore points even though there’s a restore point before update, is this WTF mode?
^ Oh that is strange! It went smoothly on my PC. After the reboot, give your PC some time. I too had to wait a few seconds for the blank screen to go away.
The update improves start-up time of my laptop from 15s to 34s.
Is that an improvement?
Not strange at all bro. Windows 8 at work also updated, now restarted, it dies 🙁
Blank screen… Maybe i’ll try repair it from USB, but WTH an update from Windows 8 broke it…
Just for fun :)! Anyway, everything is fine except the start-up time.
