There is a new social networking website in town, and it’s called Treetins. Treetins, aims to make strangers friend. In fact, its tagline itself says “Making Strangers Social”. Bear in mind, this is not a dating or matrimonial portal, it is a simple social networking website which wants you to talk to strangers with similar interest.
While travelling, or going to a new school, or a new job, we meet a lot of people, a lot strangers, but things click and we end up having a great conversation, and may be befriending them.
How Treetins works
Treetins has a simple interface, which needs a lot of working on it, you can sign up to the service by using your email ID, Facebook account or Twitter profile. Once you are there, update your profile, and click on “Converse”. From there you will find many posts, but no information about the author of that post. If you don’t find the post interesting, you can keep clicking on “bump into someone else” to switch to some other post. You can then initiate a conversation with the post you find interesting by clicking “converse with this person”. Alternatively, you can also use the overhead search bar to look for posts with certain keywords.
Treetins says it is working on more intuitive ways to help people connect with each other. This concept of bumping into strangers is not a new thing. We have seen websites like Omegle, which does the exact same thing, just that it doesn’t have this good interface to uplift its face.
Interestingly, the website isn’t just a mash-up of Tumblr (a blogging platform) and Omegle, as it is working on creating offline opportunities as well to make strangers with a common interest meet. The concept looks very interesting to us, the team is putting new ideas to make this even more interesting, but they have a lot of thing to worry about as well.
One of the major problems that we see with such websites is the number of vicious minds that arrive to the platform to spam and spread unhealthy environment. It will interesting to see how Treetins tackles with such issues and where it goes in coming months.
So what do you think? Give this social networking website a try, and let us know what you think of it.
