This website will help users get educated about online risks and protect their digital lifestyles.
Microsoft yesterday also released the third edition of its annual Microsoft Computing Safety Index (MCSI) tabulating the fact that 20% of Indians users are facing malicious phishing attacks.
Talking about the online risks on the country, Microsoft’s National Technology Officer, Prakash Kumar, says, “The Internet touches our lives every day, but how cautious are we about monitoring our online presence? There are ways to do that. It is important to commit oneself to help keep the Internet safe and make it more secure.”
Microsoft encourages responsible use of internet and suggests a few tips to be safer online:
- Keep your devices locked
- Use strong passwords and PINs for online accounts
- Never save the passwords of banking sites on secure Wi-Fi networks.
- Protect your social networking accounts with correct privacy settings.
- Keep installing the important Windows updates.
According to the MCSI survey the financial loss caused by phishing and identity theft could be as high as $5 billion, and the repairing of damage costs around $6 billion.
