After a failed attempt to buy Snapchat last year, Mark Zuckerberg has now come up with Slingshot, an app similar to Snapchat, which deletes the photos and videos shortly after sharing.
The new Facebook app, Slingshot allows the users to exchange the photos and videos without using their FB account. These shared videos and pictures automatically disappear after a few seconds.
Slingshot Features
While Slingshot is similar to Snapchat is most ways, it has a tweak. You can see the shared photo or video someone sends you only after you reciprocate or send something back to that person. Which means you have to share something before you can view any images sent by others.
Unlike other messaging apps, Slingshot also allows users to write text or draw anything on the image they are sharing. The new app helps users to share pictures and videos instantly with lots of people all together. You can sing up for Slingshot with your mobile numbers and connect with your friends on phonebook as well as their Facebook friends.
You can click a picture or shoot a video and sling it to a bunch of your friends but they won’t be able to see your shot until they send something back to you. Photos on Slingshot disappear from users’ phones right after they are viewed and once swiped away, it’ll no longer be viewable. The app also includes a ‘Selfie’ feature and the ability to turn the flash on and off.
Slingshot app is available for both Android and iOS platforms. For iOS platform, it requires iOS 7.0 or later and is compatible to iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. This app is optimized for iPhone 5. For Android devices, Slingshot is compatible to Jelly Bean and KitKat.
Facebook is busy developing various apps to compete with the fast growing rivals and other social networking websites.
Talking about the latest Facebook app, Joey Flynn, a product designer on the Slingshot project said, “Slingshot is not a messaging app and it will encourage people to upload more often”.
Slingshot will initially be available for the users in the United States.
