Microsoft usually delivers its Windows client and server releases collectively, but the case is different with Windows 10. As posted on the official Microsoft blog, the company won’t be releasing the Windows Server 10 before 2016.
Microsoft launched its latest Windows 10 client on January 21st and announced it to roll out sometime in the middle of this year but there was no announcement made regarding Windows 10 Server, which means it won’t supposedly launch before next year.
Microsoft says,
As we continue to advance the development of these products, we plan to release further previews through the remainder of 2015, with the final release in 2016. Our next preview is planned for the spring of 2015.
However, there is no official word explaining the reason this postponement of Windows Server, but a few rumoring theories state that there are some bugs in the next version of Windows Server which may delay its release. Some whispers also say that it’s the company’s strategy to push back the next Server release so that more users move to the cloud.
Windows Server 2003 will expire in July this year and the only available server OS will be Windows Sever 2012 R2. While the Windows Server Technical Preview and System Center Technical Preview builds are now available, there is no official date yet announced by the company for next Windows Server release.
