Acer, the Taiwanese manufacturer, has launched its first Windows Phone 8.1 device. The announcement was made yesterday morning at the Mobile World Congress exhibition in Barcelona. Acer’s smartphone named as Liquid M220 shall be upgradeable to Windows 10 in the future, said Acer. Along with the first Windows Phone 8.1 device, Acer also announced 3 Android smartphones.
Priced at just €79, Liquid M220 is the Windows Phone aimed at capturing budget buyers. Acer looks to start selling the device starting April this year in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The device will sport 2 colors – Mystic Black and Pure White.
Speaking at the launch, Peter Han, Vice President of Worldwide Marketing, OEM Division, Microsoft, said,
“With the launch of the Liquid M220, it’s great to see Acer expanding its portfolio of Windows devices to include smartphones. Together we are providing an integrated, cross-device Windows experience to our joint customers.”

Acer has confirmed that Liquid M220 will get the Windows 10 OS upgrade as in when the OS gets launched later this year, however with just 512 MB of RAM it remains to be seen how it performance after the upgrade. Even after Microsoft’s assurance users experience may differ for different devices and devices with low-end specifications may not exhibit all the features of Windows 10 OS.
