Microsoft recently released a pack of desktop optimization tools including recovery, deployment and virtualization tools along with the Windows 10 support. The Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack or MDOP is now available to download for the MSDN subscribers.
Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack
On August 17, Microsoft made the MDOP available to download for the MSDN subscribers. MDOP or the Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack is a collection of various tools such as recovery, deployment and virtualization and management tools for the Windows users. These tools are specifically useful for the business customers. The Microsoft Desk Optimization Pack consists of the following tools:
- Advanced Group Policy Management (AGPM)
- Application Virtualization for Windows Desktops (App-V)
- User Experience Virtualization (UEV)
- BitLocker Administration and Monitoring (MBAM)
- Diagnostics and Recovery Toolset (DaRT)
- Enterprise Desktop Virtualization (MED-V)
The updated versions of these tools are all supported by Windows 10. Users can view the complete list of updated features of Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack on the MDOP 2015 MSDN page by clicking “Details.”
At the beginning of this year, Microsoft had announced that Enterprise users will get free access to MDOP. Till date, the Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack was offered as a paid add-on for both the Software Assurance and Enterprise customers. However, with the launch of Windows 10, MDOP is made free for Software Assurance customers.
Microsoft official person mentions that,
“For individuals who have chosen to receive automatic updates through Windows Update, we help upgradable devices get ready for Windows 10 by downloading the files they’ll need if they decide to upgrade. When the upgrade is ready, the customer will be prompted to install Windows 10 on the device. For organizations, IT professionals have access to tools, which enable them to manage and control downloads on their network domain, and also make a determination as to when and if to install Windows 10. This approach is an industry practice, which stages software, reducing the time for installation and ensures the device is ready (e.g., has the correct graphics drivers to ensure display monitor will function correctly), should the customer choose to install the upgrade.”
