Microsoft wants all Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 users to upgrade to Windows 10. To achieve this objective, not only have they adopted an aggressive notifications system, they also have carried out an e-mail campaign highlighting the features of Windows 10 and urging all to upgrade to it free.
No security updates for Windows 8
Now it seems that Windows 8 users have one more solid reason to update to Windows 8.1 or Windows 10, that being the discontinuation of security updates for Widows 8 operating system. It is three years since the Windows 8 was released and now users need to either upgrade to Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 in order to continue receiving the updates.
Windows 10 has been an exception to the Microsoft usual support lifecycle which ends after ten years from the launch date – the very reason Windows XP used to receive security updates till recently.
All this while we wondered if Windows 8 users had any solid reasons to still stick to the OS and to be frank we could find none. The Windows 8.1 Update bought with it a host of changes and a level of stability. If you want to directly take a leap Microsoft is also offering, you Windows 10 update.
NetMarketShare shows that Windows 8 still accounts for 3% of the desktop Internet usage and if you are one among the 3%, we suggest you backup your files and be ready to upgrade! The withdrawal of support will impact the Enterprise users the most since they need to configure related things once they update to the Windows 8.1 or the Windows 10.
Stay secure – upgrade to Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 right away!
I own a Surface Pro 3 i7. It works hard!
Yesterday (Wed 13th) I began installing the 11 updates to Win 8.1 only to find that the first thing was to begin downloading Win 10 files. Three times I had to interrupt the process and in the end I cancelled the whole show! It seems that MS are now seeking new ways of getting their half-baked new system onto all eligible computers by stealth and subterfuge. I say half-baked because I have already had a taste of W10 in October and it was not something I want to repeat. I spent three days trying to get Chrome and many other programs satisfactorily working to no avail. I will NOT join until I really have to, and only when, hopefully 10 will be stable. I will not be bullied into it!!!!! Meanwhile it seems that the 8.1 update somehow got itself installed.
