Ransomware has become a growing threat in today’s online word for small businesses. This variant of malicious software empowers cybercriminals using malware in bogus email to freeze computer files of a user until a ransom is paid. In the face of this challenge, Malwarebytes has rolled out its latest security offering called Malwarebytes Anti-Ransomware.
Malwarebytes Anti-Ransomware
Malwarebytes Anti-Ransomware is a simple software, light in weight capable of running in the background while quietly monitoring behavior of the machine associated with file encrypting ransomware. Upon detecting any suspicious activity, the program automatically blocks the thread from encrypting your data, quarantines the executable, and alerts you that something harmful is detected.
Most of today’s security software aren’t specifically designed for ransomware as it does not act like traditional malware: some are updated daily. As such, it is hard to find and kill them. Malwarebytes Anti-Ransomware however, uses advanced proactive technology that monitors what ransomware is up to and kills it before it can do any damage. It has no shot at encrypting. The good part is it does not rely on signatures so, it is completely compatible with antivirus.
Some reports suggest the product has successfully detected, blocked and quarantined the most dangerous ransomware variants by likes of CryptoWall4, CryptoLocker, Tesla, and CTB-Locker.
“Malwarebytes Anti-Ransomware uses advanced proactive technology that monitors what ransomware is doing and stops it cold before it even touches your files. It has no shot at encrypting. And it does not rely on signatures or heuristics, so it’s light and completely compatible with antivirus,” writes Malwarebytes CEO in a blog post.
Its UI offers a simple and easy to understand dashboard, Quarantine and Exclusions. Installation is pretty simple. All a user has to do is simply download and install the app.
Currently, this program is in the beta stage – and free to download and use. Once it goes out of beta, it is likely that it may not remain free or available a s a standalone freeware. Take a look at these free Anti-Ransomware Tools instead.
