Now when the ransomware WannaCry is all over the social media and news highlights worldwide, it is creating a havoc among the public. Seeing the potential threat and the chaos among users, the Computer Emergency Response Team India CERT-IN has arranged a webcast so as to create awareness among the home users and companies.

While every security firm is looking for the solution to get rid of these worms and to prevent the attack, (MeitY), the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology is ready with a “preparedness and response mechanism” to prevent the WannaCry ransomware attack.
The government has instructed Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-IN) to collect all the details about the ransomware attack and the vulnerability. The team has already issued a preventive and reactive advisory on Saturday, May 13.
Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology India released a statement saying, “MeitY has initiated contact with relevant stakeholders in public and private sector to ‘patch’ their systems as prescribed in the advisory issued by CERT-IN. MeitY has also requested Microsoft India to inform all their partners and customers to apply relevant patches.
The department has already been informed to follow the CERT-IN advisory. Other relevant departments of digital payments ecosystems like UIDAI, National Payments Corporation of India and RBI are also advised to update their systems and take preventive measure against the massive ransomware attack.
As the worms of WannaCry have been attacking the telecom companies too, the IT ministry has advised the Internet Service providers and Department of Telecom to update their network security systems.
The webcast is titled “Prevention of WannaCry Ransomware Threat – session by CERT-In” and will be broadcast on webcast.gov.in on 15th May 2017 at 11 AM IST. The webcast is organized by National Informatics Center. Computer users are advised to tune in and learn about the attack and the preventive measures.
