Last month, Microsoft had announced that they are partnering with AV vendors to adapt the AV ecosystem that will provide better protection to the Windows 10 users. Now, Microsoft has evolved the Windows approach to AV after considering partner feedback. Rob Lefferts (Partner Director, Windows Enterprise and Security), mentions in his blog that Microsoft has agreed to the changes coming in the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update.
Windows and AV ecosystem
Microsoft works with AV partners like Kaspersky Lab. This has helped Windows to adapt AV ecosystem. Microsoft together with Kaspersky Lab delivers the Windows 10 updates and security experiences that ensure the ongoing safety of Windows customers. Rob Lefferts mentions the understanding and discussions between Microsoft and the AV partners so as to clarify Microsoft’s roadmap and implementation plans.
In order to adapt to AV ecosystem, Microsoft is implementing several changes in the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update. Some of these changes are as follows:
- Microsoft will work closely with AV vendors and provide them compatibility reviews before any new feature update is made available to the Windows users. This will make sure that there will less or no compatibility issues when Windows will adapt to AV ecosystem with AV providers. These issues will be solved much before offering the update to customers running that AV.
- In order to adapt to AV ecosystem, Microsoft will also give AV partners better visibility and certainty around release schedules for feature updates. Due to this, AV partners will have more time to review the final builds before the next Windows 10 feature update is rolled out to Windows customers.
- Microsoft has also planned to enable AV providers to use their own alerts and notifications to renew antivirus products before and after they have expired. This will give the AV partners freedom to embed their own AV ecosystem on Windows machines.
- Besides, Microsoft has modified how Windows will inform users when their antivirus application has expired and is no longer protecting them. Unlike the usual toast notification which users often ignore, Microsoft will display a persisting notification. This notification will keep coming on the user’s screen until the user either elects to renew the existing solution or chooses to rely on Windows Defender or another solution provider.
With such changes, Windows will better adapt to AV ecosystem and provide the best and most up-to-date protection to its customers.
