Facebook 5.0 for Windows Phone 8 is live

Calling it as a major update for its Windows Phone 8 applications, Microsoft announced Facebook 5.0 for Windows Phone 8.Crediting its Facebook Beta Program, launched a few months ago, Microsoft said that the new version is the first big dividend of this program that has bought in new features and improvement in Facebook application.

What does Facebook 5.0 has to offer to the Windows Phone 8 users

This major update on Windows Phone 8 has brought many new features in Facebook 5.0 for the users. The ‘pilot’ users of the Facebook Beta Program launched few months back suggested several improvements in Facebook on Windows Phone 8. Taking these suggestions into account, Facebook 5.0 now has completely new user interface, improved navigation, support for high quality pictures, post sharing, Facebook Timeline view, and many more.

What about Windows Phone 7 versions

Well, currently the Facebook 5.0 version is compatible with Windows Phone 8 only. This might leave the Windows Phone 7 users little left out. But the good news is that Microsoft is also working on updating the Windows Phone 7 version of the app later in the summer. So, users of the Windows Phone 7 will have to wait for a while!

Facebook Beta Program

Microsoft started the prelaunch Facebook Beta program in April 2013. Since then and with the new improvements, Facebook 5.0 for Windows Phone 8 has become a gigantic improvement over the old version of the Facebook. However, this doesn’t mean that the Beta program is over. The company is going to continue keeping the program alive for users who want to live on the cutting edge and “tinker with pre-release software.” Users can download the separate Facebook Beta app. Here, they can preview and provide direct feedback on future changes to the app. This is a great opportunity provided by the company to the user of Facebook apps to improve the same.
