OneDrive For Business is getting some great new upgrades in terms of overall compatibility with file viewing. The team at Microsoft is adding multiple new file viewers so that users don’t have to use third-party apps to access them on OneDrive.
New File Viewers on OneDrive for Business
Previously, native Adobe formats like Photoshop and Illustrator, 3D files, DICOM images, or Visio have led business users to use separate viewers on OneDrive. Last year at Microsoft Ignite, the company added support for most major Adobe file formats, Photoshop (PSD) and Illustrator (AI), in addition to the older PDF. Building on that support list, OneDrive For Business will now also add support for 3D formats, including 3MF, FBX, OBJ, PLY, STL for the new Windows 10 Creators Update.Mac and Linux users will also get seamless 3D support in OneDrive and SharePoint, without any browser plug-ins.
The application also adds support for DICOM images, mostly used in the medical industry. The update will now let medical employees view x-rays, MRIs, CT scans, and more through OneDrive and SharePoint, which is fully HIPAA compliant. Apart from that, OneDrive For Business also lets you view your Visio files on the software.
This is a major step by Microsoft to place OneDrive as the ultimate destination for your business reports, documents and media sharing. OneDrive For Business now has support for almost a hundred different file formats, thus covering all mainstream programs used by businesses.
