Microsoft will officially retire Windows 10 on October 14, 2025. After that, no upgrade will be rolled out, leaving your PC insecure. However, Microsoft offers a Free Upgrade to Windows 11 for a limited time.
In the official post, Microsoft has shared what happens if you don’t upgrade or need to extend support, but there is no official date or ending date for it to end. However, the FREE UPGRADE in the title showcases that Microsoft wants people to upgrade to Windows 11 for free.
It is quite easy to upgrade to Windows 11. You should however first, check Microsoft’s specifications to ensure your PC meets the Windows 11 system requirements. If using S Mode, switch out before upgrading. Windows 10 editions will upgrade to equivalent Windows 11 versions (e.g., Home to Home, Pro to Pro).
What happens if you don’t upgrade to Windows 11?
For those unable to upgrade immediately, Microsoft offers the Windows 10 Extended Security Updates (ESU) Program, a paid service providing critical security updates. However, Microsoft 365 apps will no longer be supported on Windows 10 after October 14, 2025, necessitating an upgrade to continue using them.
Will my PC still work on Windows 10?
While your PC will still function, it will not receive updates, and hence, you will no longer be protected from rising security threats.
