Microsoft announces Matt Smith (Doctor Who) as Imagine Cup Worldwide Finals host

Microsoft Imagine Cup is the world’s premier student technological competition which witnesses thousands of brilliant minds develop unique applications and projects that help make a difference in daily life. With the theme ‘Dream it. Build it. Live it’, Imagine Cup 2013 Worldwide Finals will be held in St. Petersburg, Russia from July 8-11, 2013.Microsoft today announced that Matt Smith, famous for his portrayal as The Doctor in the iconic TV Series Doctor Who, will host the Imagine Cup Worldwide Finals Award ceremony, to be held on July 11th 2013.


“Who better? Smith’s intelligent and witty portrayal of the BBC’s iconic time traveler has won fans young and old all over the world. The Doctor’s mastery of technology is only matched by his creativity, his compassion, and his sense of wonder at all the amazing things people can accomplish when they are inspired by hope instead of being ruled by fear.”

For the last few months, Imagine Cup Local Finals are happening in countries all over the world that have seen amazing applications and projects from young student developers like a project to help a user in interacting with deaf people or a project that finds a safe route for firemen when inside a burning building or on site.

The Imagine Cup 2013 Awards Ceremony will be held on July 11, 2013 and will be live-streamed to folks who aren’t physically present at the venue.
