For all the fans of Microsoft Surface RT out there, here’s a good news that every one of you was waiting to hear. Microsoft has officially announced the Surface RT price drop. Now you can own a 32 GB version of Surface RT at $349, which is $150 less than the earlier price.
The much-loved Surface RT was launched in late 2012 alongside of the launch of Windows 8. Just half year after its first market appearance, the tablet is experiencing a price cut. The Surface RT price drop is done across all variants of Surface RT, including the 64GB version of Surface RT, and both the variants with black Touch Cover. The 64GB Surface RT now costs $449. The cost cutting is almost 25% for 32GB Surface RT; while it is 30% for 64GB Surface RT. However, consumers and tech press are assuming this price cut as foreshadows of a wider price depreciation.
Microsoft’s spokesperson confirms the news with a statement that says;
“We’ve been seeing great success with pricing and cover promotions over the past several months on Surface RT in the U.S. and other markets. People who buy Surface love Surface, and we’re excited about all those additional people out sharing their excitement for Surface with other people.”
What could be the reason behind Surface RT price drop?
Surface RT certainly became famous because it is an expertly engineered tablet. However, it was partially successful in creating a hold on the market, when its prices were competing with iPad. It could be the case that the prices were not good enough to drive the sales. Now, considering the statement made by Microsoft spokesperson, Surface RT price drop has certainly increased its popularity and sales in the market; as compared to its earlier promotional announcement of giving the Touch Cover for free with every Surface RT!
What more after the Surface RT price drop?
Buyers and market researchers are speculating that the Surface RT price drop may have induced price cuts for Surface Pro as well. However, there is no confirmed news about this, and we will have to ‘wait-and-watch’ for the prices of Surface Pro to go down from $899. It is interesting to know whether people are really tempted to buy Surface RT after the price cuts from $499 to $349!
