Microsoft Ad Monetization Platform allows Advertisers to reach their business goals by extending their reach across a diverse set of Microsoft products. Sadly, the company has now announced it will no more support UWP Ad Monetization platform.
Microsoft will no more support its Ad Monetization platform
The decision comes after Microsoft realized that it could no longer maintain the product at its current level. As such, it announced that the company will close its Microsoft Ad Monetization platform for Windows UWP applications on June 1, 2020. The news comes across as a shocker for many developers since Microsoft based Monetization was the only source of revenue for them all these years.
They didn’t earn much, however, the sum was good enough to encourage them to develop more and more apps, powerful, unique and high-quality.
While this transition may be painful for developers who rely on the Ad Monetization platform today, we want to provide adequate time to make the transition to another ad platform. Our recommendation is to begin initiating a switch over immediately by evaluating alternate options for ad monetization for your Windows apps, highlighted MSDN forum post.
Microsoft advises users to switch to other advertising platforms but only a handful of them provide SDKs for UWP applications. This could turn most applications non- profitable. Also, it is unfortunate to see that rather than improving the Monetization Platform, Microsoft has chosen to abandon it.
Lastly, the tech-giant highlights, developer earnings through the platform prior to the shutdown date (i.e. May 31, 2020) will be paid out per the regular payout schedule. Also, historical data including Ad performance data will be made available for download till June 8, 2020.
