Nokia’s Official Indian website is claiming that the Indian version of Lumia 920 will support as many as 9 LTE bands. Lumia 920 will be launch by next month in India. Nokia India’s official product page of Lumia 920 lists 9 different LTE bands of varying frequencies under the Operating Frequency category.
According to the website, Lumia 920 in India will support LTE with 700MHz, 800MHz, 850MHz, 900MHz, 1700MHz, 1800MHz, 1900MHz, 2100MHz and 2600MHz frequency bands.
The European version of Nokia Lumia 920 supports 5 LTE bands with 800MHz, 900MHz, 1800MHz, 2100MHz and 2600MHz frequency. While the US version of Lumia 920 supports only 3 LTE bands having frequency 700MHz, 1700MHz, 2100MHz.
This means Indian version of Lumia 920 is the first phone that supports all the LTE frequencies that are use globally. Even then, LTE on Lumia 920 will not work in India. All the nine bands supported by Lumia 920 are FD-LTE while the Indian LTE bandwidth is TD-LTE. The radio frequency of LTE in India is 2.3GHz (2300MHz) which is not list anywhere in the 9 bands.
Mostly all the LTE capable smartphones support FD-LTE bands as US and UK carriers provide it. It is in India where the carrier comes with TD-LTE bands support, and so none of the LTE capable phone will be able to use the available LTE network in India. Not even Nokia Lumia 920.
Nokia has confirmed via a tweet that the frequency bands listed are indeed correct!
