Like others versions, the preview version of the Microsoft’s free VoIP app too contains all the Skype basics but with a touch of modern design. Skype for Windows Phone 8 is tightly integrated with the new version of Microsoft’s mobile operating system and apps such as People Hub and Windows Live Messenger.
Microsoft says that the new version of Skype is capable of running in the background without taking up any resources. Smartphones such as HTC Windows Phone 8S, Windows Phone 8X, Lumia 820 and Lumia 920 and Samsung ATIV S which run the latest version of Windows Phone OS (Windows Phone 8) will be able to run the Skype service on their devices.
These devices will display Skype in resizable live tiles on the Windows Phone 8 Start Screen. At its smallest size, the number of unread messages will appear in the tile while in its full size, the last message you received will appear in the tile.
Derek Synder of the Skype Blog claims in a blog post that Skype for Windows Phone 8 will boast some exclusive features never seen before on smartphones. These include:
- Always reachable – As mentioned, the app will run silently in the background without taking up any resources. So, you will always remain connected to your friends even if app is closed and therefore will be reachable at any time.
- Easy-to-Use – The modern yet, clean and beautiful interface will make it easier for you to use the service.
- Your People At Your Fingertips – This feature will allow you to start a chat with your Skype contacts right from the People Hub and keep up with new messages as they come through with Live Tiles.
