Surface RT will get the Windows 8.1 Update 3, come this September, says a Microsoft official. In January this year, Microsoft had informed that devices running Windows RT OS won’t get the full software upgrade of Windows 10 and the company would instead bring some functionality of Windows 10.
The announcement meant that owners of Tablet devices such as Surface RT and Surface 2 were left speculating of what update they would receive. However, now Microsoft official has announced on Twitter that an update in indeed arriving in September 2015.
General Manager of Microsoft OSG Data and Fundamentals, Gabe Aul, took to Twitter to make the announcement, that
Windows 8.1 RT Update 3 will be available in September.
What is the future for Windows RT devices
It is still not clear about what features Surface RT users can expect once the update happens. There are speculations that Microsoft may bring in some of the built-in Windows 10 universal apps to Windows RT. While the update is indeed good news for many of the Windows RT users, it’s still not clear if Microsoft is really serious about the future of RT devices.
The timing of the upcoming update has certainly raised expectations of Microsoft coming up with another big announcement around the same period.
On a similar note, Microsoft has almost left Windows Phone 7 devices in cold without any announcements for future updates. Even though there was Windows 7.8 update for Windows Phone 7 users in the past, most users were left wanting for Windows 8 OS which had most of the fancy features.
