A woman used Google Maps’ walking directions on her Blackberry and was given directions to walk onto a highway. She got hit and is now suing Google for damages.
Lauren Rosenberg of Park City, Utah, used Google Maps on her Blackberry to get walking directions from one part of town to another. Part of those direction included walking on a road without sidewalks called Deer Valley Drive, aka Utah State Route 224.
According to court documents, instead of finding a different route or walking safely away from traffic, she walked into the street and was (surprise!) struck by a car.
Now she’s suing Google for in excess of $100,000…
Did she also have a hot cuppa coffee from McDonalds?
Stupid, do you not look when you walk IF google told you to jump off a bridge you would b/c you are a dumb follower. IF you died then you could not have sued Google. MAYBE you need to sue the car driver or yourself for being STUPID
Just checked Google Walking Maps. I put in a starting point and destination. The following notice is posted:
“Walking directions are in beta.
Use caution – This route may be missing sidewalks o1r pedestrian paths.”
I don’t know how long that warning has been posted.
The notice posted in the message above has been there for months, the woman just didnt read it. It’ll be a quick win for Google.
How many flavors of stupid is she?
Damn she’s thick and ignorant!!! it’s common sense to look around when you’re walking, don’t just follow what the map says like a robot, use your brain. that is what is made for, THINKING!
The woman isn’t *nearly* as brain dead as her lawyer because this is the kind of frivolous lawsuit that could get one disbarred.
Oh, Utah. Never mind. If they disbarred all of the brain dead lawyers in that state, none would be left in that profession; admittedly not a bad thing, btw.
