The gaming console from Microsoft, Xbox 360 is rumored to have been turned into an Xbox Set Top Box. The company has set a goal to sell this device as an entertainment machine rather than just a gaming system.
Replying to the rumors on Xbox set-top box Microsoft released a statement saying
“Xbox 360 has found new ways to extend the console lifecycle by introducing controller-free experiences with Kinect and re-inventing the console with a new dashboard and new entertainment content partnerships. We are always thinking about what is next for our platform and how to continue to defy the lifecycle convention.”
This Xbox set-top box from Microsoft would serve an alternative for people like me who are not much into games and use Xbox 360 for Netflix more than the games. The report further says that Xbox set-top box will support the casual gaming tiles from Xbox Live Arcade and will run on the core components of Windows 8.
Microsoft is making serious efforts to turn this console into a full-time entertainment device. Earlier this month Microsoft announced its intent to add a Karaoke to Xbox 360. The company partnered with a Karaoke Channel to add this feature to the gaming console Xbox 360. The Karaoke added to Xbox 360 is bliss to the music lovers as it offers more than 8000 tracks with an extensive collection of genres like country, rock, R&B and pop. The feature of live streaming in this Karaoke app lets the user sing alone the karaoke online without storing it in the system. It also has the free sample of Karaoke which are regularly updated.
If the rumors of Xbox 360 turning into a set tops box as reported by The Verge are true, it will certainly be a complete entertainment device.
