No one likes images that are of bad quality because in most situations the details are hard to see, and they simply destroy the overall experience. On the web right now, we can agree that low-quality photos are rampant, but such things might come to an end with the help of Microsoft. Here’s the thing, the folks at Microsoft created a technology known as Turning Image Super Resolution, and it relies a lot on Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance photos of low quality. This piece of technology has already been rolled out on Bing Maps, and right now, the plan is to deliver it to Microsoft Edge Canary users.
Turning Image Super Resolution for Bing Maps and Microsoft Edge
The idea here is to have Turning Image Super Resolution do away with photos with low resolutions on the web for good. By incorporating this technology into Microsoft Edge, the future could see users taking advantage of what Edge has to offer whenever they want to view photos on the web.
In Microsoft Edge, we are starting to roll out the model to allow users to enhance the images they see on the web with the goal of turning Microsoft Edge into the best browser for viewing images on the web. We have seen early promising feedback from our users and are continuing to improve the experience as it scales to serve all images on the internet!
From the sample photos Microsoft has shared via its blog post, we can say for certain that Turning Image Super Resolution looks like the real deal. You see, all photos shared are not of the best quality one might expect, but with the new technology Microsoft is rolling out, we can see increased details in the converted photos.
Some images show minor changes, while others are pretty much night and day. From our point of view, what Microsoft is doing here is quite impressive, and we cannot wait to see it in action for ourselves.
