Microsoft’s push towards Windows 11 adoption continues. In recent news, Microsoft has confirmed that OneNote for Windows 10, the Universal Windows Platform (UWP) version of its note-taking app, will be discontinued on October 14, 2025. After the deadline, the app will be switched to read-only mode, allowing users to view their content but no longer edit, create, or sync it.

OneNote for Windows 10 to be discontinued
According to Microsoft, the company aimed to resolve the confusion between multiple versions of the same product. From now on, users are now required to install the new OneNote on Windows app, which is available through Microsoft 365 and the Microsoft Store.
Users don’t need to worry about their existing content, as notes synced with OneDrive will automatically be available in the new OneNote app. Just make sure your current notes are synced with OneDrive before you migrate to the latest version of the app.
Which version of OneNote are you using?
To find out which version of OneNote you are running, launch your OneNote and check if you have a File menu at the top. If you see the File menu, you have the new OneDrive installed according to Microsoft. If you do not see the File menu, you have OneNote for Windows 10.
