The latest Windows product appears to be doing well! Windows 8 has been getting rave reviews from most corners. It sold 4 million upgrades in first few days and now another may be indicative of the growth of the platform. A website has stated that StatCounter has revealed that Windows 8 has surpassed Android in terms of web traffic.
The graph above shows the statistics of users surfing the web on Windows 8 and on Android devices, with the former appearing to be more than those on Android devices. The study has already started attracting comments with many citing the report as completely irrelevant.
Many believe the report cannot compare the web traffic of a laptop OS to one of a mobile OS, because people browse on their phones for 10-30 minutes a day and carry out the same activity on their laptops even hours every day. So, naturally the “traffic” share would be larger on a laptop than on a phone.
Moreover, this StatCounter data is taken from select StatCounter sites, which might be sites that are generally visited on a device with larger screen and not via mobile phones.
Comparing Windows 8 OS web traffic with Android OS traffic is like comparing, say, apples with oranges, in our opinion. Some have even questioned the genuineness of the report, terming it as ridiculous. They have stated in their comments there is no such comparison on Statscounter.com and if it’s real, then the source must explain in detail how exactly the comparison was made. Is the data available on statcounter.com? Or is the data only applicable to the source site? In such a case, I wonder how many Android user would visit a Microsoft related site!
