Microsoft has finally acquired Zikera’s Groove app and the year old confusion is finally solved. Back in July 2015, Microsoft renamed Xbox Music to Groove but there was no official word about any such acquisition or deal. There is no official word from either company about the price details of the acquisition. 
Announcing the acquisition, Canadian startup Zikera said in its medium post,
“We are thrilled to announce that Groove has been acquired by Microsoft!”
Zikera further added,
“Our journey started back in the days of the iPod. While it was a thing of beauty, we still struggled to choose what to play from our beloved music collection. From that instant, we envisioned a music player so intelligent that learns our tastes and habits in order to play the right music at the right time. Then Groove was born, and you made it a success. We are incredibly proud to have delighted you with a rich mobile experience and countless hours of music bliss through the tens of millions of personalized playlists we generated”.
Groove is an iOS music app developed by Canadian startup named Zikera which offers personalised playlists with better music engagements and wonderful listening experience. It works on Works on PC, tablet, Xbox, the web, smartphone, and SONOS.
This is the second acquisition by Redmond giant this year which proves that Microsoft is focusing on the cross-platform technologies. Earlier this month Microsoft acquired SwiftKey, the Andriod and iOS keyboard app.
As per the Medium post submitted by Zikera, Groove music app will no more be available for download. However, the existing users may still be able to use the app, the company will not be updating the app anymore. Also, there are no details from Microsoft about how they will be using this newly acquired Groove music app.
