Microsoft has been picked by the AICTE to build an app for Indian HRD Ministers new SWAYAM (Study Webs of Active-Learning for Young Aspiring Minds) initiative. The pillar of the platform is a 2000 Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) catering to more than 3.0 crore students for the year 2016.

The deal inked between Microsoft and AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education) amounts to 38 crores, and it includes building the app from scratch and running the same for a period of three years, post which, it will be under the purview of AICTE. Below are some salient features and an explanation of how it will enhance the learning process.
Once in a year, the Registrar of the concerned college will be given a list of the online courses available and upon completion of the course, students will receive a certificate from the parent institution. The credit earned will be added up to the cumulative grades of the students, and this will be expected to have considerable weight.
Moreover, the physical facilities including the laboratory, computer facility, and library will be made available with no additional costs for the students.
Despite the fact that Technology is leap frogging, the pedagogy of teaching has been pretty much the same.
While such initiatives will add an intuitive touch to the learning process, they also enhance the entire process by making it more practical oriented.
