If you have an Intel Skylake device running Windows 7 and Windows 8.1, you’ll be glad to know that Microsoft aims to extend support of those operating systems, but only if they are being used on a system with an Intel Skylake processor installed. Earlier this year, Microsoft made it clear that support for both operating systems on a Skylake machine will run up until July 17, 2017.
Microsoft decided at another date to change its tune by announcing plans to extend the date for another year. However, the company is yet again changing its policy, and we have to wonder, will another change happen in the future to come, or is this the final one.
Here’s what the company had to say about its new policy change:
This change is designed to help our customers purchase modern hardware with confidence, while continuing to manage their migrations to Windows 10. There are now over 350 million devices on Windows 10 and more than 135 billion hours of use since the launch, with enterprise customers deploying Windows 10 to devices every day. We recommend that customers upgrade these 6th Gen Intel Core systems on Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 as soon as possible so that they can receive full support along with the great enhancements that come from running modern hardware with modern software.
Windows 10 users are not supported here, but Microsoft will definitely do the same for Windows 10 users with machines powered by Intel’s 7th generation processor, Kaby Lake, or AMD’s 7th generation alternative known as Bristol Ridge.
Microsoft says these changes are made possible due to the partnership between the company and OEMs such as Intel and many others.
