Microsoft announced the Surface Laptop earlier in May 2015 at the MicrosoftEDU event. The device was just a laptop and not a convertible like the other Surface Devices. The Surface Laptop came with Windows 10S and Microsoft allowed a free upgrade to Windows 10 Pro for a limited time. But now, if you have a Surface Laptop running Windows 10 S and you wish to upgrade it to Windows 10 Pro, you will have to pay $49 to do so. This device came with the base model with Core i5 processor. But this changes now.
Surface Laptop Core m3 variant
Microsoft has now made available a new base model for its Surface Laptop. This model will be running the less powerful Core m3 processor by Intel. However, only one configuration with this CPU is available for retail. This configuration comes with Core m3 Processor by Intel as I already mentioned. Additionally, you get a 4GB of RAM and a 128GB of SSD Storage. Also, only one color option is available and that is Platinum.
This Surface Laptop comes with a Graphics Processing Unit from Intel itself. The Intel HD Graphics 615 Unit is capable of playing some HD videos, rendering some light 3D Objects and some low powered light gaming tasks.
It is worth noting that Microsoft is providing a discount of $200 on its existing Surface Devices like the Core i5 variant of its Surface Laptop that brings its price down to $799 from $999. And they are now selling the Core m3 variant of the Surface Laptop at $799 as well. Normally if we observe, why would anyone buy a low powered machine when at the same time you get a better one at exactly the same price? Microsoft needs to figure this out as soon as possible to make the new variant a good selling device. I hope Microsoft brings it to lower and much more competitive prices as soon as possible and eventually make better profits.
