Microsoft founder Bill Gates enjoyed doing last year’s Reddit Ask Me Anything (AMA) so much that he was back for another round of questions, ranging from broad principles of philanthropy to technology. He chose to use the handle “thisisbillgates,” and opened the session saying, “Hello Reddit – I’m Bill Gates, co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Microsoft founder. Ask me anything.”
Bill Gates on Reddit
When the clock struck 10 a.m. Pacific (1 p.m. Eastern), the floor was opened to the questions. Bill, patiently read the questions and answered them with great wisdom.
It started with a simple question requesting to point out the difference between 20-year-old Gates and modern-day Gates. The answer from Bill’s side couldn’t be as simple as this:
20 years ago I would stay in the office for days at a time and not think twice about it – so I had energy and naivete on my side. Now hopefully I am a bit more mellow but with a little extra wisdom.
The other lined up was What’s one of your goals for the next year… and how can we help? The question was liked and therefore rewarded a gold by redditor for making the comment.
Wow! That is a nice thing to ask. I wish the debate about education would focus on helping teachers improve and what we know about that. Right now it is caught up in state versus federal and testing versus no-testing. In general politics needs to focus on the problems rather than attacking the other side. Asian countries are helping their teachers improve and the impact is huge.
The list seemed never-ending so, I chose a handful of them and listed them here in the post. You can find many that make an interesting read, on this this page. Apart from the questions the session was also centered around Gates’ continued work with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation like the development of the “Next Generation of Condom”—an ongoing search that started last year.
