Many website owners & bloggers use Google Analytics to track & see their website statistics. Google has now announced that they are now giving the option to the visitors to opt out of being counted!
Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on
The Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on provides users with a choice of whether information about website visits is collected by Google Analytics.
The add-on stops data from being sent from your computer when you visit websites that use Google Analytics Javascript (ga.js) to track usage.
Google Analytics uses JavaScript on the webpage to notify a third-party server when a page is rendered by a web browser.
The Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on communicates with the Google Analytics JavaScript (ga.js) to indicate that information about the website visit should not be sent to Google Analytics.
If you want to opt out of Google Analytics, download and install the add-on for your current web browser.
It is available for Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Chrome, and can be downloaded here.
The Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on is available for Internet Explorer (versions 7 and 8), Google Chrome (4.x and higher), and Mozilla Firefox (3.5 and higher).
So how accurate will Analytics be after all, if many chose to opt out!?
A simple custom rule in Adblock Plus: *.google-analytics.com/* will block scripts from running.
I think Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on should have been released a long time ago. Good that it has come now and I am sure a lot of internet users are going to use it.
