Better late than never, LinkedIn has finally launched a new feature called LinkedIn Polls. This feature allows users to ask questions and gather easy feedback and responses from their professional network. Following the announcement, the option to create polls is live on LinkedIn smartphone apps as well as the website.
LinkedIn launches LinkedIn Polls
In its recent blog post announcing LinkedIn Polls, the company wrote:
“Your professional network can be a great asset when it comes to gleaning insights or getting a second opinion.”
When put in the context of social media, polls serve as one of the driving forces behind online conversations. Both Facebook and Twitter provide users with polls, and now LinkedIn has joined a similar bandwagon.
Unlike Facebook and Twitter where debates over polls and their results are often turned into heated arguments, LinkedIn is a professional social networking and job discovery platform, and at the end of the day, the company would want users to keep that in mind, although it doesn’t specifically say so.
Of course, LinkedIn, just like any other social networking platform, wants to drive healthy conversations, and of late, the Microsoft-owned company is boosting efforts to make inroads into content creation and distribution.
LinkedIn Polls are expected to provide users with yet another option to drive conversations, ask questions, and gather inputs and feedback on different issues and topics.
For example, LinkedIn says you can ask which business tool you should invest in or gather feedback on which interview question to ask a prospective team member, among other things:
“Asking your network for feedback—and providing it to others in return—is a great way to get relevant and informed input, while also sparking new conversations and discussions with your trusted connections.”
How to create LinkedIn Polls
LinkedIn says you can create lightweight polls in less than 30 seconds. All you need to do is go to the LinkedIn app or website and find an option to create a new LinkedIn post. Now, locate the option to create polls. Type your question. You can enter up to four answer options.
Interestingly, you can choose the LinkedIn poll’s duration between 24 hours and up to two weeks. You can choose the duration from the following set of options: 1 day, 3 days, 1 week, and 2 weeks.
These days, LinkedIn is becoming more like a youth-centric social media platform, possibly to attract youngsters to LinkedIn Premium and LinkedIn Learning. Earlier, LinkedIn announced that LinkedIn Stories, a Snapchat-like ephemeral stories that disappear after 24 hours, is under development.
