The Microsoft-Firefox search partnership seems to have progressed a step up. While earlier Mozilla had started offering Bing as one of the search engines on its Firefox browser, it is now offering a custom version that uses Bing as the default search option in both the search box and in the browser’s Awesome Bar.
Called Firefox with Bing, this version also sets the Bing.com as the browser’s home page.
Microsoft has also launched a new website FirefoxWithBing.com to promote this new partnership and the bundled version. Firefox users who are Bing enthusiasts can now use Firefox with Bing to use the Web the way they want without having to take extra steps to navigate or customize their settings to Bing.
A Mozilla representative had earlier said, “We have every confidence that search partnerships will remain a solid generator of revenue for Mozilla for the foreseeable future.”
The 3 year Mozilla-Google contract expires next month and maybe this is an indicator of bigger things to come between Microsoft and Mozilla.
If you already have the latest version of Firefox, then you just need to simply download the Bing Search for Firefox Add-on to set the same preferences.
Incidentally, There are nearly 20 customized versions of Firefox available, including United Internet, Twitter, Yahoo!, Yandex, etc, and Bing is now the latest addition.
Visit FirefoxWithBing.com to download it.
