Some users or organizations still use Internet Explorer for different tasks or to visit websites that use Internet Explorer-specific technologies. If you are among those users, you will not be able to use it after 14 February 2023 because Microsoft has decided to disable Internet Explorer 11 permanently on Windows 10. The support for Internet Explorer 11 has already been ended on June 15, 2022, and now, Microsoft is going to deactivate Internet Explorer 11 permanently.
Microsoft to permanently disable Internet Explorer 11 on February 14, 2023
Windows 11 is the latest version of the Windows Operating System. It is also the first operating system that Microsoft released without Internet Explorer. However, Windows 11 users can still use Internet Explorer on Windows 11 by enabling it in Microsoft Edge.
If you are a Windows 11 user and you type Internet Explorer in Windows Search, Windows 11 will show you Microsoft Edge in the search results. But this is not the case in Windows 10 and earlier versions of Windows OS. You can launch Internet Explorer from Windows Search. After February 14, 2023, Windows 10 users will no longer be able to use Internet Explorer 11.
Have a look at the announcement made by Microsoft:
As previously communicated, the out-of-support Internet Explorer 11 (IE11) desktop application is scheduled to be permanently disabled on certain versions of Windows 10 devices on February 14, 2023, through a Microsoft Edge update. Devices that have not already been redirected from IE11 to Microsoft Edge are scheduled to be redirected with the Microsoft Edge update scheduled for this date.
This change will be applied to Windows 10 operating system through the Microsoft Edge update and not via the Windows Update. The update will be delivered to both commercial and consumer devices and the users will not be able to reverse the update. According to Microsoft, this change is to make the users’ experience better.
The organizations which still have dependencies on Internet Explorer 11 are advised by Microsoft to complete the transition before February 14, 2023, because after that, the users will not be able to use Internet Explorer 11-dependent applications.
