Yahoo! feels some of its features aren’t adding enough value for its users as a result it is closing down some of those. Few days back, Yahoo issued a statement that it is discontinuing several Yahoo! Product features. The initiative would help the struggling US Internet giant refocus on modernizing its core service, believes Yahoo.
The details on the products that will be closed down are provided below in brief.
Yahoo! Messenger Public Chat Rooms
The Yahoo! Messenger Public Chat Rooms will close down on December 14, 2012.
Yahoo! Messenger Pingbox
From December 14, 2012 onward Pingbox feature will no longer be seen active on Yahoo! Messenger. Users, who have installed Pingbox on their blog or social networks, are advised to visit here to know how to uninstall the feature.
Yahoo! Messenger interoperability with Microsoft Windows Live Messenger
Beginning from the same date i.e. December 14, 2012, Yahoo! Messenger will no longer be interoperable with Microsoft Windows Live Messenger. Although, Microsoft buddies will be visible under your Messenger contact list, it would not be functional anymore. It will be seen greyed out. If you will try sending instant messages to them, the messages won’t be delivered.
Yahoo! Voice Phone In and Phone Out feature
Yahoo! has also decided to stop offering Yahoo! Voice Phone In and Phone Out capabilities from next year i.e. January 30, 2013. The service would also not permit users to add new funds to their accounts. Active users having balance in their accounts will be detailed by Jajah in the coming days on how to request a refund. For more information users can contact Jajah at [email protected].
Yahoo aspires to make the world’s daily habits inspiring and entertaining. It would be interesting to see if the latest efforts from the company would help it in creating an experience that users will appreciate.
