Folks at Xbox have a detailed explanation to offer on what it means when certain games carry a label that says ‘Optimized for Xbox Series X.’ If a certain game is labeled ‘Optimized for Xbox Series X,’ this is an indicator that it can leverage the power of Xbox Series X to its full potential.
Optimized for Xbox Series X; Here’s what it means
Thanks to Xbox Series X, Microsoft promises to offer certain capabilities to game developers unlike before, courtesy of Series X’s modern hardware offerings. Obviously, Microsoft wants game developers to embrace a range of features and capabilities that better suit their individual titles.
In its recent blog post, Xbox wrote:
“When you hear a game has been Optimized for Xbox Series X, you’ll know that the developer has either natively designed or fully rebuilt their game to take full advantage of the unique capabilities of our most powerful console ever.”
If the game is natively designed or rebuilt from scratch to leverage the power of Xbox Series X, it has some obvious advantages over games that are compatible with the upcoming console but not ‘optimized.’ First and foremost, optimized games can virtually reduce load, courtesy of the Xbox Velocity Architecture, hardware-accelerated DirectX raytracing, and framerates that can all the way up to 120fps.
One example of a natively redesigned game specifically for Xbox Series X is Halo Infinite. Meanwhile, an example where a game developer rebuilt their title to take full advantage of Xbox Series X is Gears 5.
