Internet Explorer has only around five months left before it hits retirement. The exact date when this will happen is June 15, 2022, at least for certain versions of the Windows 10 operating system. With this in mind, it is now time to make the effort to test Internet Explorer (IE) mode in Microsoft Edge. Doing this will ensure that when IE is no longer around, your business and users should have little problems browsing pages originally designed for IE.
Furthermore, the folks at Microsoft went on to add that testing IE mode is extremely important for those who plan on upgrading to Windows 11 since Microsoft Edge with IE mode has since replaced Internet Explorer 11 on that operating system.
Prepare for IE retirement with new testing tools
If you are in the process of getting IE mode up and running via Microsoft Edge, then there are some key things you’ll need to know. For example, the company released the new Cloud Site List Management experience not too long ago, and it was created to help folks host their IE mode websites in an authenticated cloud endpoint via the Microsoft 365 administrator center.
Additionally, users will be happy to know that Selenium’s IE Driver tool can now help with automated, end-to-end testing for IE Mode where Microsoft Edge is concerned. From what we have gathered, Microsoft has partnered with Selenium to make this a possibility.
You now have the ability to take the same tests you’ve participated in and used across versions of Internet Explorer and employ them for testing in IE mode. Running an automated test can locate issues earlier than a manual test, but combine them both and you’ll achieve Zen.
There’s also a tool known as App Assure, and it is basically a site compatibility support program that is free to use. It was originally created to deliver customers free, and expert remedies if they should ever come across site compatibility problems when setting up IE mode.
Other testing tools are available. If you want to find out more, simply read the official blog at Microsoft Tech Community.
