Microsoft has unveiled details on Maps app for Windows 10 for Phone. The new Maps app includes features like aerial imagery, rich local search data, and voice-guided navigation from Bing and HERE maps.
What makes Microsoft’s upcoming OS different from others is its support for Universal apps that run on both desktop and mobile hardware. Microsoft’s Maps app for Windows 10 is one such Universal app that has been shipped along with the recent Windows 10 Technical Preview Build 10051.
Windows 10 Maps for Phone
The Maps app based on new Windows Universal app platform provides consistent mapping experience across different Windows devices like PC, tablet and phone. The new Maps app includes features like aerial imagery, rich local search data, and voice-guided navigation from Bing and HERE maps.
One can search for businesses and access details including location and contact information, images and reviews from services like Yelp. Reservations of restaurants can also be done within the app. The Suggest nearby places feature helps one to eat and shop, as well as discover local attractions and activities.
Navigation interface sources features from HERE maps, such as speed limit warnings and day and night modes. A note-worthy feature of the Maps app is its offline support – one can store maps of specific regions to navigate comfortably without the help of phone signal or using mobile data.
