Microsoft’s attempts of making Bing more than a web search engine certainly seems to be going in the right direction. Month’s after making changes in the way the AutoSuggest feature works in Bing, the software giant has come up with significant updates for its news portal – Bing News.
Updates for Bing News
- Trending topics and related individuals
- Expansion of news articles index beyond 2 weeks
The above updates have been rolled out for Bing News, an aggregator specifically for news articles. The first feature lets you explore people, places, and things “in a visual and easy-to-use carousel format, states Microsoft on a blog. Making it simpler, when you will search a person in current events, you’ll not only get news results about him from across the Web, but also a visual carousel which will show all important and timely information related to him.
The company as highlighted above also revealed it has expanded its articles index size from weeks to years. Earlier, Bing News just contained about two weeks of news but now the data spans several years. To be precise, this indicates when Bing News will fail to find anything regarding your query in recent articles; it will glance through its index and bring you older, but still relevant news/articles pertaining to the topic.
While most news searches preferably search for recent events, some past and old stories too can prove informative in some cases. It would be interesting to notice with so many changes introduced, will Bing News emerge as a valid alternative for Google news. In the meantime, you can visit the page and read about the changes made to Bing News in detail.
