The US-based social game developer Zynga has decided to pull the plug on FarmVille, a game that once took Facebook by storm. This doesn’t come as a surprise though, since Facebook will no longer support Flash games as of December 31, 2020.
FarmVille to shut on December 31, 2020
As we already know, Adobe is killing the flash player this year. Hence, starting next year, Adobe Flash player will no longer receive updates or remain functional. It’s not just FarmVille but so many web games that require Flash support will stop working as web browsers pull off Adobe Flash support altogether.
As far as Microsoft Edge is concerned, Adobe Flash Player support will be out of picture starting v88 release. Microsoft will release Edge 88 sometime in January 2021. Since both Edge and Chrome run the Chromium engine under the hood, both the web browser applications are unlikely to keep the Flash support functional after January 2021.
Well, there was a time when the web-based multiplayer game FarmVille was highly popular among Facebook users.
“Following an incredible 11 years since its initial launch back in 2009, we are officially announcing the closure of the original FarmVille game on Facebook,” Zynga said.
“We’re aware that many of you have been with us since the very beginning, helping to build an incredible global community of players over the years who’ve enjoyed this game just as much as we have. For that we say thank you,” it added.
FarmVille in-app purchases will remain functional through November 17, 2020. After the November 17 deadline, Zynga will pull the plug on FarmVille’s payment system.
Although FarmVille will no longer process in-app payments after November 17, 2020, you can play the game until December 31, 2020. Make sure to utilize the remaining credits (in case you have any) before the game shuts down for good.
Zynga will soon announce some in-game experiences to make your remaining time with the original FarmVille more enjoyable. Interested users can play FarmVille 2: Tropic Escape and Country Escape. Meanwhile, Zynga is also working on the worldwide release of FarmVille 3 on mobile.
